On the centrally located open space at Wagenrain in Wohlen, a residential development with two hundred and two apartments is being built in direct connection to the sports facility.

The design takes the plot on a slight slope, which is intersected by the meandering Wagenrainstrasse, as a structuring leitmotif. From the street, all buildings on the left and right side of the parcel are accessed and interwoven by a root-like above- and below-ground path system. In doing so, the garages form underground strands along the topography so that the landscaped outdoor space is cleared of cars and prioritizes residents through a neighborhood network of pedestrian paths, quality outdoor spaces, and housing oriented to the landscape. The buildings themselves are set into the flowing landscape as pastel-colored simple cubes varying in earthy tones, with three types emerging in response to the topography, allowing a range of different housing types to be generated.

The buildings are all accessed from a central core and are designed as quadruple units, whose residential units are placed over the corners and are interlocked with the green outdoor space via attached corner balconies. To expand the apartment ratio, the axes defining the apartments are shifted according to type. The largest building types also experience a tectonic shift along the core, so that the facade development is enlarged, which allows deeper naturally lit floor plans and, via offset balconies and conservatories, enables a far-reaching embedding of the living space in the landscape.
