The new building at 235 Riedhofstrasse acts as a link between the urban street environment and the topography of the Hönggerberg. The building occupies the plot as a compact structure that presents a striking façade towards the street whilst opening up delicately towards the private garden.

The façade is structured by vertical grooved render in earthy tones, which lends the building a sculptural texture. Horizontal bands of varying textures, along with recessed window frames and a continuous plinth finished in fine aggregate, lend a sense of rhythm to the building’s mineral-like envelope. Whilst the house presents a confident façade to the outside, the proportion of openings on the garden-facing courtyard façade is significantly increased. Delicate metal railings and precise details in the use of materials emphasise the architectural stance and complement the interplay between solid construction and metallic elements.

The floor plan layout of the seven residential units follows a clear logic of separation between communal living areas and private retreats. Spacious, open-plan living and dining areas are flooded with light through floor-to-ceiling wood-and-metal windows, which create a direct visual connection to the outdoor spaces. The sequence of rooms flows seamlessly via threshold-free transitions onto the loggias, balconies or the spacious roof terrace of the penthouse unit. In the interior design, tactile wooden parquet floors contrast with white plastered surfaces, whilst natural stone worktops in the kitchen areas complete the material coherence of the design.
