5th place at the Winterthur district facility competition
HDPF achieved 5th place in a two-step general planning competition for the extension of the Winterthur district facility. The jury found the compactness and internal organization of the first stage of expansion particularly convincing.
Excerpt from the jury report: “The authors chose the approach of a clearly organised building continuation. Apparently the work of two authors, the district building was to be enlarged through the addition of an attic storey with contrasting façade. Rearwards to the railway tracks, a simple, three-storey rectangular new prison was to be built. Overall, the site was compact and uncluttered. Thanks to its internal situation within the area, the fifth full storey as a means to expand the district building was quite conceivable, despite being close to a conservation zone. However, the lateral recesses could only be justified by construction law. The new three-storey prison is a pleasantly restrained presence.”
