New construction of two multi-family houses
This estate on a steep slope provides the observer with a 180-degree view of the nearby Lake Zurich and the Alps in the background. With the premise of fully exploiting this potential for each residential unit, two buildings are placed on the property that create apartments out of a complex interplay of layers, protrusions and recesses, benefiting from numerous qualities in terms of views and atmospheres that transform during the course of the day. Both buildings are accessed from a foyer on the slope side with a central skylight, which acts like the tip of an iceberg as a socially connecting element between the building hemispheres and the underground garages. To highlight the building’s layering, only the suspended floors protrude from behind the horizontal window bands, while a second layer of exterior walls behind them – which modulate privacy in specific areas – recede into the background.
